JIM DUNLOP Hetfield's Custom Flow Guitar Picks

James Hetfield, one of the greatest riff masters of all time, requires gear that performs as monstrously as he does, including his picks. When he approached Dunlop in search of a pick that would meet his high standards, we collaborated closely with him to develop a solution that not only keeps up with his performance, but also enhances it.

Starting with the standard flow pick 1.0mm, we took input from the thrash titan himself, who put it through rigorous road tests and provided us with feedback on the tweaks and adjustments needed to perfect it. We incorporated the blended beveled edges of the black Fang pick for a super snappy attack that projects bright articulation, ensuring that every note and chord makes an impact through all the speed and gain. We also increased the weight to 1.14mm, a deviation from the standard flow pick line, to achieve the perfect balance between mass and articulation. Lastly, we improved the grip by creating a custom pattern to ensure the pick stays put when Hetfield really digs in.

According to Hetfield, "The white Fang pick has amazing grip when sweating from heavy riffing, and a smaller profile to go faster. Plus, the white is easier to see when they get thrown into the crowd."

The resulting pick combines the specially engineered shape of flow picks with Hetfield's black fang pick. Its small profile and low profile grip provide superior control, while the blended beveled edge allows the pick to glide across strings with ease. The wide angle and sharp tip focus the attack, making it perfect for Hetfield's hard-charging riffs.
