Misha Mansoor, a proud user of .60mm Tortex Flow Picks, initially did not seek a signature model. However, he discovered that his aggressive playing style was causing the thin gauge to wear down quickly. As a result, he approached Dunlop in search of a thin pick that could withstand heavy use while maintaining the same sound, flexibility, and playability of his Tortex Flow Pick.
The decision to stick with the Flow Pick shape was an easy one, as it perfectly complements Misha's progressive picking technique. The wide angle and sharp tip of the pick provide exceptional handling and precision during fast and heavy playing, while the sculpted edge allows Misha to control dynamics by adjusting the orientation of his attack. This design enables him to boost and accentuate solos or produce even, consistent rhythms.
To ensure durability that could withstand Misha's intense playing, Delrin was chosen for the pick material. Similar to Tortex, Delrin holds its shape for a longer period and wears more evenly. It also produces a warm tone, balancing the sharp tip's articulation.
The resulting Misha Mansoor Custom Flow Pick not only meets Misha's requirements for sound, feel, and playability, but it also comes in two different gauges: .65mm and .73mm. Misha prefers thin picks for their clear notes and just the right amount of compression to maintain tightness and accuracy. The .65mm gauge is flexible enough for energetic live performances, producing clear notes without going sharp. Additionally, the blue color helps Misha locate the pick on stage. On the other hand, the .73mm gauge, reinforced with black colorant for extra stiffness, allows for deliberate and controlled performances in the studio.
Key features of the Misha Mansoor Custom Flow Pick include its long lifespan, smooth release, and warm tone due to the material choice of Delrin. The aerodynamic Flow Pick shape provides superior precision and maneuverability, while the sculpted edge offers a wide range of attack dynamics. The "Live" .65mm gauge provides built-in compression to keep notes in tune during high-energy performances, while the "Studio" .73mm gauge allows for tightly controlled performances in the recording studio.
