James Hetfield, one of the greatest riff masters of all time, requires gear that matches his monstrous performance, including picks. When he approached Dunlop in search of a pick that meets his high standards, we collaborated closely with him to develop a solution that not only keeps up with but also enhances his performance. Our starting point was the Flow Standard Pick 1.0mm, which we used as a foundation. This thrash titan subjected it to a series of rigorous tests on the road and provided us with feedback on the tweaks and adjustments needed to perfect it. First, we integrated the Black Fang Pick's blended beveled edges to deliver a super snappy attack with bright articulation, ensuring that each note and chord makes an impact through all the speed and gain. Additionally, we increased the weight to 1.14mm, which is not typically available in the standard Flow Pick line, to achieve the perfect balance between mass and articulation. Lastly, we enhanced the grip by creating a custom pattern to ensure that the pick stays in place when Hetfield digs in. "The White Fang Pick has amazing grip when sweating from heavy riffing, and a smaller profile to go faster," he says. "Plus, the white is easier to see when they get thrown into the crowd."

The product combines the specially engineered shape of Flow Picks with Hetfield’s Black Fang Pick. Its aerodynamic profile and subtle grip provide superior control, while the blended beveled edge ensures smooth movement and snappy articulation. The wide angle and sharp tip focus the attack for speed and clarity, making it perfect for Hetfield’s hard-charging riffs.
